Getting there

Kent vineyards you can reach by train

You don’t need a car, or a designated driver, to visit Kent’s vineyards. Here’s the nearest station for each, how long it takes from London, and whether you can walk the last bit.

Checked against each vineyard’s own visitor information in September 2026.

The short answer

Three Kent vineyards are walkable from a station: Westwell (about a mile from Charing), Warehorne (10 to 15 minutes from Ham Street) and Domaine Evremond (about 30 minutes from Chilham). For the others, including Chapel Down and Gusbourne, you’ll need a taxi from the station, and it’s worth booking it both ways before you set off. Many rural stations have no taxi rank.

Tips

Making the day work by train

  • Book the taxi both waysSeveral stations, like Marden and Appledore, have no taxi rank. Most vineyards list local firms on their websites.
  • Check the return trainsSome of these lines run only one train an hour, so know which train you’re aiming for before the second glass.
  • Watch for weekend engineering worksReplacement buses are common on Kent lines at weekends. Check on the day.
  • Book tours aheadGuided tours at most estates need booking, especially on summer weekends. Walk-in tastings are the exception, not the rule.
